{"id":3706,"date":"2017-09-04T14:13:48","date_gmt":"2017-09-04T14:13:48","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/looseleafhollow.com\/?p=3706"},"modified":"2017-09-04T14:13:48","modified_gmt":"2017-09-04T14:13:48","slug":"on-the-road-again","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/looseleafhollow.com\/index.php\/2017\/09\/04\/on-the-road-again\/","title":{"rendered":"On the Road Again"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>[et_pb_section admin_label=&#8221;section&#8221;]<br \/>\n[et_pb_row admin_label=&#8221;row&#8221;]<br \/>\n[et_pb_column type=&#8221;4_4&#8243;]<br \/>\n[et_pb_text admin_label=&#8221;Text&#8221;]<br \/>\nThe fierce and awesome dragon tail of Hurricane Harvey shook out<br \/>\nfive inches of rain over Kentucky yesterday.<br \/>\nAfter three weeks of being laid up with sciatica,<br \/>\nI don my Tilley hat, my rain gear and grab my staff<br \/>\nas I head out the door<br \/>\nto walk to the end of the road and back home again.<\/p>\n<p>The sassafras, beech, and oak leaves are glazed and dripping;<br \/>\nsprays of humble jewel weed and partridge pea<br \/>\ncommingle at the feet of the stern, upright ironweed.<br \/>\nI\u2019m amazed how much has changed along this road in my absence!<\/p>\n<p>And how much has ripened in my heart as I learned, slowly<br \/>\nand fitfully, to walk the path of the lame goat.<br \/>\nI saw how much my ego craved the comfort zone,<br \/>\nand how much my soul thrived amidst the hurt and the disease.<br \/>\nSo much compassion welled up for the lame<br \/>\nand the halt, so often left behind by the young gods.<br \/>\nAnd how grateful I am to, simply, take a single step without pain.<\/p>\n<p>Further down the road, the verdant sea of soybean<br \/>\non either side of me,<br \/>\nwas glimmering with tawny patches<br \/>\nof ripened leaves that swirled like galaxies of gold.<br \/>\nClouds of vapor sat like derby hats<br \/>\non the knob tops.
